Nightmares

With all the extra stress you have after a trauma, it is very common to have nightmares. These can make getting a good night’s sleep really difficult, and even scary!

  • Nightmares may be flashbacks of the actual event, or they might seem unrelated to it.
  • They often cause the body to react –racing heart, sweating, heavy breathing-- as if something bad were actually happening.
  • Having nightmares is normal and they usually lessen over time

Bad dreams can be tough to get rid of because they are a natural way that your brain sorts out memories of what happened. All the tension and bad feelings that have built up throughout the day finally get a chance to come out.
