After going through a trauma, people sometimes experiment with alcohol or drugs to:
- Change their state of mind
- Forget about what happened
- Just to feel good
- To feel comfortable in social situations
- Because of peer pressure
Even though these things may feel good in the moment or help you to forget about your problems, drugs and alcohol will most likely harm you in the long run.
Facts about Drugs and Alcohol
- Can be addictive, meaning deciding to quit will be much harder that deciding to start
- They don’t allow your brain to work through what’s been going on
- Often worsen existing problems and create a whole bunch of new ones
