What Will We Talk About?

So if I do go talk to some professional… what do I say?

If you've never seen a counselor or therapist before it can seem a little awkward when imagining what you'll talk about.  It might help to jot down the things that have been really bugging and any questions you may have you so you don't forget.  Some common things people might discuss with their counselor include:

  • Thoughts that are too overwhelming to manage on your own
  • People close to you that are being mean or unsupportive
  • Feeling alone, without close family or friends
  • A traumatic experience that you don't feel comfortable sharing with someone in your daily life
  • Feeling sad, depressed or freaked out for what seems like most or all the time
  • Having a lot of trouble concentrating or getting motivated at school or work
  • Use of alcohol or drugs
  • Overusing prescription medications
  • Thinking about hurting/killing yourself or someone else
